The Saturday Post: Sequels, New Books, Trailers & More!

We’re trying out a new feature here at Novel Novice — “The Saturday Post” — a way for us to bring you the week’s biggest book news in one easy to read place. Let us know what you think! Meanwhile, on with this week’s headlines!

* Excellent news for fans of Hush, Hush. Author Becca Fitzpatrick announced that there will, indeed, be a third book in the series — Tempest, due in stores Fall 2011. Here’s more from Becca’s blog:

CRESCENDO’s final pages are quite dramatic and open up all kinds of possibilities for continuing the story, and by the time I’d typed “The End,” I knew that was the direction I was heading.

This past summer, I had a long chat with my agent, and told her I’d written up a daring proposal for a third book in the series, and wanted her to submit it to my editor. I was just as nervous during this submission as I was with HUSH, HUSH, waiting for her answer and fearing she’d hate the proposal…but…she was crazy about it. And so in August, I began writing TEMPEST, the third installment in the HUSH, HUSH series. I can’t say much about it yet, since I’m only about a third of the way through the first draft, but I will say that it’s shaping up to be all kinds of things I love: Twisty-turny, full of suspense, a little creepy, and most of all, there are some pretty electric scenes between Patch and Nora.

This is very exciting news — especially when you discover how Crescendo ends! Becca also talks about a fourth book — which may be another in the Hush, Hush series OR it could be a new standalone book.

* Jackson Pearce announced that her new novel, Purity, will come out in Spring 2012! Here’s the summary from her website:

Hours before her mother died, Shelby promised her three things– to listen to her father, to live life without restraint, and to love whenever possible.

Those promises were easy to keep when she was younger, but things get tricky when she turns sixteen. Shelby’s still-grieving father joins a committee at their church to host a Purity Ball– a dance where young women pledge their purity (namely, their virginity) to their father’s safekeeping until they marry.

But Shelby has a Life List– things she wants to do, to live without restraint like she promised her mother– and getting married young isn’t on it. Waiting until she’s thirty to have her first time isn’t on it either. But how is she supposed to keep her promise to listen to her father if she refuses to pledge? By exploiting a loophole- by losing her virginity before the Ball.

She and her best friend Jonas make a list of potential partners, but somewhere in-between failed attempts at losing her virginity, trying to answer some lingering questions about God, and planning the Ball with her Dad, Shelby starts to understand what her mother really meant, what her father really needs, and who really has the right to her PURITY.

* EW premiered the new trailer for Fallout by Ellen Hopkins — the final book in her Crank trilogy, due out on Tuesday. EW writes:

Ellen Hopkins’ Crank novels aren’t exactly light reading material. Written in free verse and dealing with the harrowing consequences of crystal meth addiction, the often grim and disturbing books are a serious YA counterpoint to Edward Cullen’s over-brooding. Fallout, the third in the series, is set to release on Sept. 14, just weeks after Hopkins’ invitation to headline  Texas’ Teen Lit Festival was rescinded. (For those of you who missed the fracas, Pete Hautman blogged that what had happened to Hopkins was “a form of censorship as damaging and inexcusable as setting fire to a library,” and he and other authors then withdrew from the festival, too.)

We’ll be giving away a copy of Ellen’s Crank trilogy later this month — so stay tuned!

* Check out the new trailer for the paperback edition of Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl:

* Lots of amazing news from our good friend Cassandra ClareClockwork Angel will debut at #1 on the New York Times children’s bestseller list, at #9 on the USA Today overall bestseller list and at #4 on The Wall Street Journal bestseller list! (We’ll have this week’s complete NYT bestseller list tomorrow — so tune in to see who else made the list. There are lots of authors celebrating this week!)
