I’m confused.
I initially began writing this post assuming Steph Meyer would be on top. It went something like this:
Are you one of the millions who has already purchased and read The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner? (Read our review here.) If not, you’re in the minority as it gracefully whisked aside John Grisham’s Theodore Boone and took its throne place at the top of the New York Times best sellers list.
But then I checked the New York Times list, which was published online Friday, June 11 and here’s what I saw:
| CHAPTER BOOKS | ||
| This Week | Weeks on List | |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | THE RED PYRAMID, by Rick Riordan. (Disney-Hyperion, $17.99.) Ancient gods (this time from Egypt) and a mortal family meet in a new adventure. (Ages 10 and up) | 5 |
| 2 | THEODORE BOONE: KID LAWYER, by John Grisham. (Dutton, $16.99.) He’s only 13, but he knows what to do when he encounters a murder case. (Ages 8 to 12) | 2 |
What the …. ?! OK, so it didn’t appear in the top 10 of chapter books. But it’s not a paperback so it wouldn’t be there, either. And yet, I KNOW from another source, USA Today‘s Best-Selling Book Database, that Bree Tanner is, indeed, the top seller.
So, who knew there could be controversy and confusion on a best sellers list?!
Anyway, the only other big news is that the paperback version of Maggie Stiefvater’s Shiver hit No. 9 on the paperbacks list. Check back next week to see if we can sort out all this muckety-muck and crown Steph Meyer queen of Literary Land once again.
