Creative Writing Prompt: Thirsty Thesaurus

Creative Writing Prompt #20
Thirsty Thesaurus

It’s a fact. We all tend to use the same vocabulary words day in and day out. Think about it – how often do you learn a new word?

Your thesaurus is parched. It’s desperately waiting for its pages to be thumbed. It wants you to use it for good or evil… whatever the theme of your writing.

Take a poem that you’ve already written and choose at least one word per line to look up in the thesaurus. How can you turn your poem into a more sophisticated or intriguing piece by making a synonym switch?

There are thousands and thousands of words out there – not to mention the hundreds of different languages that open up your options even further. Use new words. Attack language with vigor. Freshen up your poems whenever possible.
