The Perks of Being a Wallflower: Questions for the Cast

If you’re a regular visitor to Novel Novice, you know how much I adore The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. I was 17 when this book first came out, and it immediately made a huge impact on me. Ever since then, it’s become one of those handful of books by which I judge all others.

So it should come as no surprise that I am super excited about the upcoming movie adaptation of The Perks of Being a Wallflower! And I’m even more excited to announce that we’re working with Summit Entertainment to bring you some really cool exclusive content from the cast & crew of the movie, which is filming in Pittsburgh.

We want YOUR questions for the cast & crew of The Perks of Being a Wallflower — and we’ll pick the best ones to send with Summit Entertainment to the set, where they’ll film the actors answering your questions and then post the responses online!

So check out the cast & more info about the project below, then drop your questions in the comments below! And remember, these are questions for ANY & ALL members of the cast & crew, not just specific people.

About The Perks of Being a Wallflower:

Standing on the fringes of life offers a unique perspective.

But there comes a time to see what it looks like from the dance floor. This haunting novel about the dilemma of passivity vs. passion marks the stunning debut of a provocative new voice in contemporary fiction: The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

This is the story of what it’s like to grow up in high school. More intimate than a diary, Charlie’s letters are singular and unique, hilarious and devastating. We may not know where he lives. We may not know to whom he is writing. All we know is the world he shares. Caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it puts him on a strange course through uncharted territory. The world of first dates and mixed tapes, family dramas and new friends. The world of sex, drugs, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, when all one requires is that perfect song on that perfect drive to feel infinite.

Through Charlie, Stephen Chbosky has created a deeply affecting coming-of-age story, a powerful novel that will spirit you back to those wild and poignant roller coaster days known as growing up.

  1. How important do you think this story is, and how did you prepare to portray it’s characters?

  2. I just recently read this book for the first time & it COMPLETELY blew every thing else I’ve ever read out of the water. Knowing that it will be turned in to a film for the big screen excites me like no other! I really, truly hope they do the book justice. With Stephen Chbosky as the screen writer & director, I don’t see why they wouldn’t though. Right?!

    1. Where did you get the idea from that they’re dating? From that picture at the MTV awards? That’s a classic ‘We’ve spotted them kissing’ papz picture. There is no prove except that one picture. And I don’t think that picture is real. There were dozens of papz there, and only one made a picture of them kissing? Why would that be? Exactly, because they weren’t.
Maybe they are of course, but that picture is anyway fake.

      1. Birgit – there are more pictures of them sitting in a bar with their legs intertwined and twitter postings around where they are filming. People have seen them out and about and posted on twitter/facebook etc – that they are more than friends.
The kissing picture is not fake and was outside her hotel in LA – not the awards show. They were trying to hide behind a car to prevent it from being caught.
They are hooking up. Summit will not allow a question about Emma’s love life to be asked anyway.
