It’s time for another edition of Styled by Books – in which I find fashion inspiration from some of my favorite reads.
Today, let’s talk about one of my favorite trilogies: The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski. I adored all three books in this series, and not one of them let me down. My outfit for today’s shoot drew inspiration primarily from book 2, The Winner’s Crime:
That’s mostly because I had a nice blue dress – but not a pink or red dress, as seen on the covers for books 1 and 3, respectively!
This is one of my favorite dresses! It’s knit, so it’s super comfy, it has pockets (POCKETS!), my favorite 3/4-length sleeves, and a full circle skirt. Plus, I really love the deep navy blue color. Like most of my favorite dresses, this one is from eShakti.
I added the scarf for a little extra sparkle and to pick up on the metallic accents on the cover – the silver sword, the gold lettering – as the scarf has both silver and gold threads in it. I believe I got it at Charming Charlie last year.
Here’s more about the first book in the series, The Winner’s Curse:
As a general’s daughter in a vast empire that revels in war and enslaves those it conquers, seventeen-year-old Kestrel has two choices: she can join the military or get married. But Kestrel has other intentions.
One day, she is startled to find a kindred spirit in a young slave up for auction. Arin’s eyes seem to defy everything and everyone. Following her instinct, Kestrel buys him—with unexpected consequences. It’s not long before she has to hide her growing love for Arin.
But he, too, has a secret, and Kestrel quickly learns that the price she paid for a fellow human is much higher than she ever could have imagined.
Set in a richly imagined new world, The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski is a story of deadly games where everything is at stake, and the gamble is whether you will keep your head or lose your heart.
