Most Anticipated Book-to-Movie Adaptations of 2011


While we’re all about books here at Novel Novice, it’s also no secret that we love movies, too. And we’re especially fond of movies that draw their inspiration from books. So as we begin the new year, we thought it only appropriate that we take a look at the year’s most anticipated book to movie adaptations. (Stay tuned later this week for the year’s most anticipated comic book movie adaptations.)

The movies are organized chronologically by current release date. Trailers are included wherever possible.

I Am Number Four

Current release date: February 18

John is an extraordinary teen, masking his true identity and passing as a typical high school student to elude a deadly enemy seeking to destroy him. Three like him have already been killed … he is Number Four.

Beastly

Current release date: March 11

A modern-day take on the “Beauty and the Beast” tale where a New York teen is transformed into a hideous monster in order to find true love.

Jane Eyre

Current release date: March 11

A mousy governess who softens the heart of her employer soon discovers that he’s hiding a terrible secret.

Red Riding Hood

Current release date: March 11

Set in a medieval village that is haunted by a werewolf, a young girl falls for an orphaned woodcutter, much to her family’s displeasure.

Water for Elephants

Current release date: April 22

A veterinary student abandons his studies after his parents are killed and joins a traveling circus as their vet.

Rise of the Apes

Current release date: June 24

An origin story set in present day San Francisco, where man’s own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.

Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows – Part 2

Current release date: July 15

The end begins as Harry, Ron, and Hermione go back to Hogwarts to find and destroy Voldemorts final horcruxes, but when Voldemort finds out about their mission, the biggest battle begins and life as they know it will never be the same again.

The Three Musketeers

Current release date: October 14

The hot-headed young D’Artagnan along with three former legendary but now down on their luck Musketeers must unite and defeat a beautiful double agent and her villainous employer from seizing the French throne and engulfing Europe in war.


The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1

Current release date: November 18

The Quileute and the Volturi close in on expecting parents Edward and Bella, whose unborn child poses different threats to the wolf pack and vampire coven.

Sherlock Holmes 2

Current release date: December 16

Sherlock Holmes and his sidekick Dr. Watson join forces to outwit and bring down their fiercest adversary, Professor Moriarty.


The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Current release date: December 21

A journalist is aided in his search for a woman who has been missing — or dead — for forty years by a young female hacker.
